How To Clean Your Flat Screen HD TV

Cleaning a flat screen HD TV is different from cleaning the old style CRT screens. This is because the regular CRT monitor has a protective glass screen, so you will basically clean that glass just the same way you clean any other glass objects, such as lamp shades or protective glass covers for your tables at home or in your office.

But first of all, how do you know when your television needs a good cleaning? There are two ways to go about this: first, you need to do a routine cleaning at least once a week, to remove any dust that settles from the room onto the surface of your LCD screen and keep your TV in proper condition to prolong its life shelf. And second, you can actually start seeing the fingerprints and dirt left by them around the place where you turn on the TV on its TV mounting brackets. Your eyes will see that something is not just right immediately and will give you the OK to go ahead and clean your screen

So if you want to learn how to clean your flat screen HD TV, you need to follow somewhat different steps, to avoid destroying or damaging your screen in the process. You need to be aware that these flat screens or LCD televisions are quite sensitive and can be very easily scratched. And trust me, once you've spent all that money on buying your new flat screen TV, you don't want to damage it right away or void its warranty.

Flat screen HD TV cleaning tips

First of all, do not use any of the regular household cleaning products on your flat screen TV or monitor. They can easily cause more damage than they are worth it. Also make sure that every time you clean your television screen, you unplug it first from the power source. It needs to be disconnected to avoid any accidents during cleaning.

  1. First get rid of all the dust from the surface of your flat screen. Use a cloth made of microfiber to gently swipe the dust away from the TV surface. This should be done on a regular basis to avoid excessive dust to settle on the surface. Too much dust can easily damage your flat screen.
  2. For a deeper cleaning use a damp cloth made of either micro fiber or full cotton and a bit of lukewarm water or a special cleaning solution that is made for 'LCD screen' or 'laptop screen'. Avoid using any other solutions than the special designated ones, or simply lukewarm water that works just as well.
  3. Dampen your cloth with the water or your cleaning solution and gently wipe the screen of your television or monitor. Avoid rubbing or applying any sort of hard pressure, such as scrubbing, during the cleaning process. Apply a gentle sweeping motion.
  4. In case your damp cloth did not fully remove the dust and dirt, do not under any circumstances press harder to try to remove the dirt. Scrubbing off the dirt can easily cause the pixels to simply burn out.
  5. Never use newspapers or paper towels or toilet papers on the screen as they are known to scratch the more sensitive surfaces such as your LCD screen. Also never use any sorts of chemicals, including ammonia, alcohol, regular window cleaners or other liquids containing acetone, toluene, ethyl acid, ethyl alcohol or methyl chloride. They are a bit no-no when it comes to flat screen HD TV cleaning!
  6. As permissible liquids, you can also use an equal mixture of distilled water and vinegar with the soft cloth.
  7. When you need to clean the plastic cover edge surrounding the actual screen, you can use multipurpose cleaners, however be extremely careful to avoid touching the actual screen with the product, as this can easily damage your expensive screen in a heartbeat.
  8. Finally avoid spraying any kinds of liquids directly on the screen. The spraying process can easily allow water to run inside your monitor and ruining it completely.
