Mounting a HDTV On The Wall
If you have a new HDTV that you want to start to watch right away,
you will have to wait about an hours, simply because that's how much it takes to install it by yourself on the
wall. It is a fairly easy project however it takes a bit of time to get it properly done.
Some people are afraid that their heavy and huge TV will simply fall off once
mounted on the wall and that's why they leave their TV on the floor for a long time before they get over their fear
and decide to actually do the installation. Some other people have paid a professional to do the job, knowing that
the installation will really survive some abuse due to time and general usage. However it is really nothing to be
afraid of, you can easily mount your HDTV on the wall without fear as if you do it properly, your TV will merrily
hang on the wall, defying gravity, right until you will buy yourself a new, more modern TV set.
So here are a few tips to get you started with wall mounting your HDTV. While
this is not an all-encompassing guide, it is a good starter guy with useful tips that combined with the owner's
manual that comes with your TV should help you install your TV just the right way.
The first thing you need to do is look through the many TV mounting brackets available today on the market. Obviously you can't
hang your TV from a hook like a painting. Each mounting bracket has a specific weight limit, which means that you
need to buy the one that supports effortlessly the weight of your new HDTV. So before anything else, find out
exactly how much your television weights so you can start looking for the right TV mounting brackets.
For example a plasma TV weights more than an LCD TV, whereby a 42" LCD TV
weights about 45-60 pounds and the plasma of the same size weights around 80 pounds, which is much more than the
previous type. So if you have a new plasma TV, you need to get proper plasma TV mounting brackets, while for an
LCD TV, you need a good LCD TV
bracket.
Also you'll need to see what type of wall you have as wall material will
decide what type of hooks or anchors you can install. A concrete wall will easily go with anchors, however the
other wall types will need some supporting studs. You might use one or more studs, depending on the weight of the
TV.
Mounting Guide:
-
Choose the location for your TV carefully. You need a stud finder to locate the
center of the studs in the wall that will hold your TV.
-
Mark the drill holes on the wall and then drill the holes based on your markings.
Make sure to use a level so the holes are drilled on a perfectly horizontal line.
-
Use some lag screws to secure the wall brackets on the wall. You will need a socket
wrench for it. Install the lag bolts at around 90% of the way each. Make sure to tighten the bolts
securely.
-
If your TV came with a stand, remove the support from it since you won't be needing
it any longer. Simply unbolt it from the frame of the television.
-
Now attach the vertical rails to the back of the TV.
-
Plug in the cables before placing the TV on the wall else later on will be
almost impossible to do it.
-
When all is mounted, simply hang the TV on the wall mount. You might need the help
of a friend of family member with this step, as the TV can be quite heavy and awkward to put on the
wall by yourself.
